Anyone watching Torchwood?
I've watched the first few eps of the first season and I'm really enjoying it.  The plots are interesting, the characters well-thought-out, and, hey, it's British tv--very little real violence and lots of sex ;-)

Other interesting/cool things:

  • The producer is Russell T. Davies, who also writes and produces Queer as Folk and the new Doctor Who.
  • According to Wikipedia: "Davies connected the name of Torchwood to an idea for a modern British telefantasy programme in the style of American dramas like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel that he had been developing before he began work on Doctor Who". Wiki article.
  • The central character is a strong, smart, non-stunningly-beautiful woman (I'd call her cute).  Inoticed that she doesn't run "like a girl".  In the chase scenes she runs like she's really going to catch the bad guy (in the day, I also noticed this about Buffy).
  • Captain Harkness is omnisexual, though we haven't seen any of that yet (there has been talk of it and I know at least two of the eps in season one have themes that explore this further).
  • I was happily shocked at the amount of sex shown in the second ep.  Not on do they show it once, but when we find out that a critical event happens during it, they show it again on video (probably twice!).
  • There is a show called "Torchwood DeClassified" that runs 10 minutes and gives behind the scenes info on each ep.  The one for the ep with all the sex, doesn't even talk about the sex scene and definitely doesn't go all "Entertainment Tonight" about it.
  • The Captain reminds me of Mark Harmon for some reason.
  • One of the supporting characters is Asian (there aren't many on tv--Gray's Anatomy, Lost, Heroes, The Closer--though there are probably more, though not on shows I watch).

What station is this on? Or are you d/l it from itunes or something? I've heard good things about it, and I wanted to give it a look-see. Help me out? *puppy eyes*

(I really am working and not reading my friends pages. Honest. Um, mostly honest, maybe?) :D

I d/l as a bittorent.

I watched another ep last night. It's really good. The interplay of the characters is fantastic. It's a lot like Firefly, although the writing is not quite as snappy/witty/sharp (and that's a huge compliment coming from me).

It's only been shown on BBC 3 (which I gather is the "mature" channel in the UK).

Welcome to the fandom!! You ain't seen nothing yet. When you're done with Torchwood, watch the 1st and 2nd seasons of the new Doctor Who (out on DVD). You'll "meet" Capt. Jack in the DW 1st season.
Doctor Who is more of a "family" show than Torchwood, but there's great storytelling there.

I came to the fandom in the same order as you. 1st watched Torchwood, then Doctor Who. I LOVE Torchwood, but have become a bit obsessed with Doctor Who.

It's good to know I'm not the only one!

Don't know who else is advising you about this, but here's a trick about the second season. There is a mini-episode (5 minutes) called the "Children in Need" Special that takes place between the season 1 finale and the Christmas special "Christmas Invasion" that opens the second season. Make sure you watch those before moving on to the first season 2 ep "New Earth".

(It's called "Children in Need" because it aired during a charity telethon on BBC. Has nothing to do with what happens in the ep.)

Enjoy!
